HVEN Gallery is pleased to present “ROOT,” a solo exhibition by artist and jeweler Sui Sakagami @suiaeth

Through works that move between contemporary jewelry and art, “ROOT” reflects on the boundaries through which we define the world around us: natural and artificial, beautiful and unfamiliar, self and other.

For over a decade, Sakagami has created handmade works shaped by his interest in the emotional connections objects can create. Drawing from personal experiences of prejudice, loneliness, and the boundaries imposed between people, his practice explores how such divisions can be transformed into individuality, creativity, and connection.

Questioning whether these boundaries have always existed or were created by us, the exhibition considers the possibility that things which appear different may ultimately lead back to the same place.

Where do we draw the line? And is that line truly necessary?

HVENは、アーティスト／ジュエラー坂上粋（Sui Sakagami）による個展「ROOT」を開催いたします。

現代ジュエリーとアートのあいだを行き来する作品を通して、本展は私たちが世界を理解するために引いてきた境界線について問いかけます。

10年以上にわたりハンドメイドによる制作を続ける坂上は、物が生み出す人との感情的なつながりに関心を寄せながら、自身が幼少期から感じてきた偏見や孤独さ、そして「境界線」というテーマと向き合ってきました。

何を自然と呼び、何を人工と呼ぶのか。何を美しいと感じ、何を異質だと感じるのか。

その境界は最初から存在していたものなのか、それとも私たちが後から作り出したものなのか。

異なるものに見える存在も、辿っていけば同じ場所に行き着くのかもしれません。

皆さんは、どこに線を引くでしょうか。そして、その線は本当に必要なのでしょうか。
