HVEN Gallery is pleased to present “PARADOXICAL,” a solo exhibition by artist Susanna Giorgia. @susannagiorgia
Moving between the city and nature, the exhibition explores the feeling of being drawn toward two opposing worlds at once. In the city, Susanna finds traces of nature in unexpected and artificial places: the LED glow of an old sign printed with a fading forest, or the green of a bathroom tile late at night. Yet in nature, the gaze reverses, searching the landscape for a light, a sign, or some trace of the city left behind.
Rather than describing a desire to escape one place for another, “PARADOXICAL” reflects on the way these two environments coexist: always present, always pulling against one another, and never entirely separate.
The works bring this gaze together in an archive of images printed directly onto wood. The material itself introduces another paradox, a once-living tree, stilled and preserved, now carrying images and traces of the city across its surface.
The opening reception will feature DJ sets by Riomar Mccartney, Choken Son, and Seungbeom Lim.

本展では、都市と自然という相反する二つの場所に同時に惹かれていく感覚を探求します。都市の中では、色褪せた森がプリントされた古い看板のLEDの光や、深夜のバスルームにある緑色のタイルなど、人工的で思いがけない場所に自然の気配を見出します。一方、自然の中に身を置くと、その視線は逆転し、風景の中に光やサイン、あるいは離れてきた都市の痕跡を探し始めます。
「PARADOXICAL」が描くのは、一方からもう一方へ逃れたいという感覚ではなく、二つの世界が常に存在し、互いに引き合いながらも、完全に切り離されることなく共存している状態です。
本展では、そうした視線を集めたイメージのアーカイブを、木材へ直接プリントして展示します。かつて生きていた木が、静止し保存された素材となり、その表面に都市のイメージや痕跡を宿すことで、素材とイメージのあいだにも新たなパラドックスが生まれます。
オープニングでは、Riomar Mccartney、Choken Son、Seungbeom Lim によるDJセットをお楽しみいただけます。
