熊野寿哉 - Hisaya Kumano

花人・空間芸術家

1975年大阪生まれ。

洋画家であった父の影響で幼少の頃より美術に囲まれた環境で育ち、学生時代は油絵を学んだ。10代後半で上京しファッションデザイナーを生業にするも、芸術との格差に違和感を覚え始めていた頃に生け花に出会う。

以来古典的なものから、現代美術として独自の解釈をした作品までを創作し、国内の主要な能楽堂、ラグジュアリーホテル、映画のセット内にて装花及びディレクションなど大規模なものから、有名旅館や飲食店、ファッションブランドの展示会などミニマムな要素を必要とするものまで幅広く携わり、その活動エリアは日本のみならず、NY、ソウル、ブエノスアイレスと広範囲に渡る。

2022年より開催されたマツモト建築芸術祭では3年連続で作品発表。始めの2年はアソシエイトプログラムをトータルプロデュース。

今年はベルリン・アート・ウィーク2024にも参加し、その詩的なインスタレーション作品で多くの来場者を魅了した。

植物の持つエネルギーや神秘性を最大限に引き出す為に、時としてそれらが飾られる空間までも造り込み独特で幻想的な世界観を演出するのを得意とする。

Ikebana / Spatial artist

Kumano was born in Osaka in 1975. Influenced by his father, a Western painter, he was immersed in art from a young age and initially pursued oil painting as an art student. However, in his late teens, he relocated to Tokyo and began a fashion designer career. Feeling a discomforting disparity between art and fashion, he eventually found solace and inspiration in ikebana (the Japanese traditional floral art).

Since discovering ikebana, he has developed a unique interpretation of classical and contemporary art, showcasing his talent in large-scale projects such as flower works and spatial direction for major Noh theaters, luxury hotels, and movie sets in Japan. His influence extends to famous inns, restaurants, stores, and fashion brand exhibitions, often emphasizing minimalistic elements.

His work has reached beyond Japan, encompassing cities such as New York, Seoul, and Buenos Aires. The Matsumoto Architecture Art Festival has been held since 2022. For the first 2 years, he served as the total producer of the associate program. 

This year, he also participated in Berlin Art Week 2024 and captivated many visitors with his poetic installation artwork.

Known for his ability to bring out the energy and mysticism of plants, he excels in creating distinctive and fantastical worldviews. His spatial designs often go beyond conventional norms, establishing environments that not only showcase plants but also immerse viewers in a captivating and imaginative experience.
